Steno Ferluga: BIG and small Science
Picture

Summary. The main astronomy problem is the Universe. We can perceive the Universe as one big puzzle made form big and small parts. The big parts are galaxies, and we have basic problems in exporing it, but still, large amounts of money are spend on it. Stellar astronomy deals with the stars - small parts, but it’s becoming the B-class science, becuse it’s no interest enough, but basic problems of both fields remain open: the Hubble constant, overshooting problem. Recent researches have shaken the foundations of modern stellar astronomy: single stars that were used as reference stars turned out to be binaries. Anyway, galaxy field is becoming A-class science and it’s shame that we have to wait for important results of the stellar astronomy, while all resources are directed to the more compicated problems which still have many questions without the answer.
